Obedience

Obedience classes are largely modeled after the AKC requirements for the corresponding level of competition, but there are also classes which focus on specialized topics, as well as some which provide an opportunity for those who are not interested in competition to have fun working with their dogs. The classes offered in any particular session vary; those listed below are examples. Offerings for the next session can be found here. To register for any of these classes, use the general intermediate/advanced application form. Fill it in and mail it in to the address given on the form along with the fee.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
The Canine Good Citizen class covers all the test items required to pass the AKC CGC exam. The exam will be held on graduation night. To earn a CGC, your dog must complete all test items successfully and you must sign the Responsible Dog Owner’s Pledge.
Beyond Basic Obedience (aka – Date Night with Your Dog)
This class is for students and dogs who are not ready for competition, or who are not interested in competitive obedience. The class blends skills from obedience, rally, agility, shaping, and problem solving. Typically, students take this class after completing the CGC class.

Advanced Obedience classes, such as
- Pre-Novice – For dogs who have completed the CGC class. Provides a start towards Beginner Novice and more advanced Obedience classes.
- Beginner Novice - For dogs with basic obedience skills; preparation for the AKC Beginner Novice class. All exercises are on leash except for the recall.
- Novice – For dogs with basic obedience skills who are ready for some off-leash work.
- Introduction to Open Skills – For dogs who have a good foundation in Novice exercises and off-leash control.
- Open/Utility – For dogs who are learning the exercises for Open and/or Utility.
- Proofing Classes – For dogs preparing to compete. This is an opportunity to practice the skills you have learned in a distracting environment.
Rally

Rally classes teach the skills and rules required for AKC Rally competition. We offer both introductory and more advanced rally classes. These classes can be taken to prepare for competition, to refine handling skills, or just for fun.
