Monday @ 5:30pm / Foundations Agility (FULL)
Instructor Abby Christman, Assistant Marguerite Hart
Limited to 6 students; 1.5 hours - FULL
September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23
Foundations Agility is geared towards handlers who want a safe and confident start to their dog’s competitive agility career! Dogs are expected to be new to the sport, while handlers may be new or experienced. Students signing up for this class should plan to commit to both the September and November sessions to reach an intermediate level with the same instructor.
In this class, we will focus on safety and confidence building to create a solid foundation and set the dogs up to be successful in their agility careers. Dogs will be introduced to the different types of agility jumps (regular, double, triple, broad, high), tunnels, table, and start learning 2 on/2 off end behavior on all three contacts (teeter, dog walk, A frame). Jump grids and other activities will be used to teach dogs to find and drive their line to the next obstacle, but sequencing will be kept to a minimum. Handler skills will focus on staying connected with the dog and properly rewarding the dog. Weaves will be mentioned, but not taught as a dedicated weave class is best to make progress.
This class will be off-leash in a secure environment and dogs need to be under control at all times. Excessive barking, running at gates, and other disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. As crating is a fundamental skill for advanced agility classes and trials, a small amount of time can be devoted to training quiet, relaxed crate behavior but not at the detriment of other dogs in the class, the learning environment, or the time needed to learn agility skills.
Requirements:

October 30th @ 6:30pm / Basics of clicker training
Instructor Sue Yanoff
Monday, October 30th, 6:30-8:30pm
Have you ever wondered what “clicker training” is? How does it work? Why use it? Is it “better” than other ways to train?
A click is simply a way to mark the exact behavior you want to reward. It is used in a process called “shaping.” In this seminar I will explain what shaping is, and show you the basics of using markers, specifically a clicker, to train your dog.
Working teams will pick a behavior they want to teach their dog using a clicker. I will coach each team to help them learn the correct mechanics. Every participant, working or auditing, will be given a clicker to keep.
Working spots are $20 for active members (who have priority), $70 for inactive members, and $5 for auditors. Non-members may audit this workshop.
